Spanning Three Centuries of Service
  
  • Edward Bowles, a longtime resident of New Rochelle, died on March 7, 2010. He was 92.

Mr. Bowles was born on August 30, 1917 in Geevagh, Co. Sligo, Ireland to the late Edward and Bridget (Fallon) Boles. He grew up in Ireland, worked at The American Officers Club in Belfast during WWII and enjoyed playing Gaelic football. After the war he started several businesses in Belfast before moving to New York in 1956 where he worked for the A&P Company.

 

He is survived by his wife, Dympna (nee Farrell)  whom he married on January 8, 1947; his six children: Mary Curtis, Dympna Bowles (Donal Farley), Colette Breen (Barry), Angela McNaughton (Lawrence), Eamonn Bowles (Jacqueline McGowan), Sheila Regan (Michael); his sixteen grandchildren: Finbarr, Elizabeth (Marsh) and Patrick Curtis; Julia (Wall), Glynnis and Brendan Breen; Christopher, Eamonn (Sarah), Brigid and Colin McNaughton; Christine, Laura and Claire Bowles; Madeleine, Mic and Caroline Regan; his six great grandchildren; his brother Christopher Boles, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a granddaughter Nora Regan, a son-in-law Gregory Curtis, and five brothers: James, Michael, Brendan, Patrick and Thomas Boles, and a sister, Margaret.

 

Visiting Wednesday 2-4 & 7-9pm at Lloyd Maxcy & Sons Beauchamp Chapel, 16 Shea Pl, New Rochelle. Funeral Mass Thursday 10:30 at Holy Family Church, New Rochelle. Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions to Catholic Relief Services or Elinor Martin Residence, Mayflower Ave., New Rochelle.

 

  • Joseph J. Granata MD was a longtime resident of New Rochelle. On March 4, 2010 at the age of 55 he unexpectedly passed away.

     

    He was born in the Bronx on May 1st, 1954 to Teresa and the late Anthony J. Granata MD. He was a physician for many years in private practice and an attending physician at The Mt. Vernon Hospital. He was an avid drummer who volunteered his time to The Westchester Brassmen, NYU and the choir at Holy Name Church. He loved his family very much and was respected and admired by his friends and colleagues.

     

    In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife of twenty five years, Barbara; his daughter Jennifer Granata and his son Joseph Granata; his siblings Anthony Granata, Andrea Granata, Teresa Merlucci, John Granata and Frances Suozzo; and six nieces and nephews.

     

    Visiting Monday and Tuesday 2-4 & 7-9pm at Lloyd Maxcy & Sons Beauchamp Chapel, 16 Shea Pl, New Rochelle. Funeral Mass Wednesday 9:30am at Holy Name Church New Rochelle. Interment Gate of Heaven Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to the Westchester Brassmen Scholarship Fund, Harrison, NY.

 

  • Kevin Maurice Gleeson, a longtime resident of New Rochelle, died on March 8, 2010. He was 67.

     

    Mr. Gleeson was born on June 8, 1942 in Mount Vernon to the late Timothy and Rose Ann (O’Connell) Gleeson. He served in the US Army during the Vietnam War and was awarded the Purple Heart and the Combat Infantry Badge. For many years before retirement he worked as a landscape contractor at Gleeson’s Greenhouse and Nursery.

     

    He is survived by two sisters, Margaret Abel and Pat Cronin; a nephew, John Abel; a niece, Doreen Perna; a great nephew, Matthew Perna; and two great nieces, Kristie and Allison Perna.

     

    Visiting Friday 4-8pm at Lloyd Maxcy & Sons Beauchamp Chapel, 16 Shea Pl, New Rochelle. Mass Saturday 10:30am at Blessed Sacrament Church. Interment at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
