Robert D. “Bob” Loreto, 96, of Mission Viejo, California, died
on May 13, 2013. He was a long-time resident of New Rochelle, New York.Born December 4, 1916, in Schenectady, New York to Paul and Mary (Bucci)
Loreto, Bob later moved to New Rochelle and graduated from New Rochelle High School. Having joined the
Naval Reserve in 1939, a call to active duty shortly before World War II interrupted his college career. He married Laura
Summa on February 14, 1943 in New Rochelle.After working in Naval Aviation-related positions while stationed at Pensacola, Florida for several years, Bob was
assigned to be part of the original aircraft carrier USS Randolph (CV-15) crew. He saw combat on missions in the South Pacific for almost a year until the war ended in August 1945. After discharge, Bob was
employed as an accountant for 33 years, retiring in 1979 and moving to Laguna Woods California so he could be near his children
and grandchildren.During
retirement, Bob worked part-time in the tax and accounting fields. He enjoyed spending many hours with his family as well
as following sports in person and on TV. His keen sense of humor along with a personality that engaged
everyone he met will not be forgotten. He was a man of fierce loyalty, character and integrity.Bob is survived by his son Paul (Dorothy), daughter Lori
(Salvatore) Santamaura, granddaughters Kathleen (Raffaele) Spennato and Kelly Loreto and great granddaughter Alice Spennato, all of California, as well as his sister Ann Jerdan of Nevada and many nieces and nephews.
His wife, Laura Summa Loreto, preceded Bob in death on September 18, 2010.A Votive Mass of the Angels will take place on Thursday, May 23, 2013, at 1pm, at Blessed
Sacrament Catholic Church in New Rochelle. Interment with military honors will follow at Beechwoods Cemetery.The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, contributions
be made to organizations supporting today’s generation of veterans, such as iava.org.
